Laser surgery...
can be used to
treat stretch marks when they are very
new and still red. The laser seals the
blood vessels to speed up the
contraction of the vessel and get rid
of the colour of the mark, but there
will still be an indentation in the
skin.
Laser treatment might help restore some
of the skins elasticity by stimulating
the production of collagen.
During periods such as
pregnancy
and
puberty where
the body is subjected to rapid
growth the skin is forced to
stretch more quickly than it
usually does. The lower layers of
the skin are made up of proteins
called collagen and elastin, which
give the skin its strength and
stretchiness. When the skin
stretches too much or too quickly,
vertically, horizontally or both,
these layers stretch and break in
places. It is this process that
results in stretch marks. Laser
treatment might help restore some
of the skin’s
elasticity by stimulating the
production of collagen.
